Location, Location, Location
With two-thirds of St. John designated as a U.S. National Park, the island is the most undeveloped, easygoing and serene of the three major US Virgin Islands. Nearby St. Thomas Island has the airport, so arriving on St. John is by ferry service from St Thomas. We are also very close to the British Virgin Islands, so St John day trips easily include the "BVI."

In 1917 the United States bought St. John from Denmark. By the 1930's, news of the beautiful American island had spread to the United States mainland and the beginning of what was to become a tourism boom on St. John was established. Island and Beach Wedding Attire – What to Wear to a St. John Wedding and Other Days on Island
We have seen every type of beach wedding dress, ranging from short and simple to wedding gowns, there is no typical island wedding dress! Mens beach wedding attire is also varied, from a white linen shirt and khaki shorts to full tuxes. Wedding guests should wear cool and comfortable attire as well. Cotton and linen offer the most comfortable beach wedding attire. Beach wedding shoes are normally, well - no shoes at all (barefoot beach wedding!) or comfortable, open toed sandals. Around St. John during the day, shorts or skirts with a cool top and flip flops are fine in town. (Local customs frown on just bathing suits off the beach). In the evenings, you will see island guests in everything from their day wear, to what we affectionately call “island fancy” in the evenings - a Tommy Bahama or flowered shirt and shorts or khaki pants for the guys and usually a sundress for the ladies.
